Who are we?
We are Shetland Rockpool Safaris, run by Matt and Beth, a wildlife loving couple who work in the conservation sector. We moved to Shetland in 2021 and quickly fell in love with the rugged coasts and its wildlife. We spend hours of our free time exploring the shores, looking for sea glass, shells, nudibranchs and other sea life. We are knowledgeable about many aspects of Shetlands Wildlife and we want to share the mysteries that lurk just below the surface with you
Our favourite things to find
Nudibranchs, often called sea slugs, are the ultimate jewels of rock pooling. They come in many shapes and sizes and can be incredibly colourful. Most are barely the size of your little finger nail. We find many species of them around Shetland shores, and rock pools on low tides can be great places to look. We do not always find them so it is always a highlight when we do. See our gallery or instagram account for more images.

Group Safaris and Private Tours
We offer a series of scheduled tours through out the warmer months, based around tide height and times. Please see our schedule page for our current programme. All sessions take place at Sandsayre, Sandwick, ZE2 9HP. Parking is available on site, and the No. 6 Bus from Lerwick will drop you off at the top of the hill on request.
We also offer private bookings, to try and fit around your holiday or groups availability. We cater to any visitors, cruise ship groups and residents. Please contact us with your dates and we will see if the tides are suitable. These tours can be based around Shetland.
Friendly and knowledgable guides
Our guides, Matt and Beth, have plenty of rock pooling experience, and many books and resources to help you learn about what you may find. We are also generalist naturalists and passionate about our local environment.
We provide a safety briefing, equipment and resources for safely finding and learning about any rockpool dwelling wildlife we come across in our sessions.
